Classy chaser who landed the Arkle over C&D at the 2022 Festival. Back to his best under a change of tactics (made all) when bolting up in the Game Spirit at Newbury in February but he's been beaten by Jonbon on each of their 3 previous meetings, including in this race last year.

Top-class chaser who has won 9 of his 11 starts over fences. Enjoyed a near-flawless campaign last term, which started with a clear-cut victory in this race (beat the re-opposing Edwardstone by 9½ lengths) and culminated with a terrific display in the Celebration Chase at Sandown. Hard to oppose.

Grade 2 winner as a novice and further progress when landing valuable back-to-back Ascot handicaps last winter. Back on track following a couple of falls when 7¼ lengths fourth to Jonbon at Sandown on final run of last term, finishing just over 3 lengths behind Edwardstone. Has undergone a wind op.

Enjoyed his finest hour to date when landing the C&D Grand Annual at the Festival in March. Didn't do much wrong when second in a fairly valuable 4-runner graduation chase at Carlisle on Monday but he faces a tall order on these terms.

It's hard to look beyond JONBON, who has few peers at up to 2½m over fences and he beat Edwardstone on each of their three meetings last term, including on his reappearance in this race and final start of that campaign in the Celebration Chase at Sandown. Boothill, who was a place behind Edwardstone in the latter race, is an appealing option for forecast purposes given his excellent record when fresh.
